About The Briar Patch Bike Park

In early 2020, fate stepped in when William met bike trail designer Hayden Kettwich (pictured with bike walking beside Arnold), who, at the time, was working on the Stumphouse Moutain Bike Trail through his company, Dialed Dirt. Shortly after meeting Arnold, Kettwich had a contract fall through due to covid lockdowns and decided to quarantine here in Oconee. Kettwich and Arnold became very close friends and developed the idea for a bike park on an unused section of the farm that was, then, a briar patch.

The two spent the rest of lockdown building a world-class bike park, which includes a dual slalom race course, cross country course, and even beginner level courses. Arnold tells us that there is something at The Briar Patch for every type of rider from BMX to mountain bikes and from beginner to pro.

Arnold has big long-term plans that include a stage, bathrooms, and merch area for concerts, several Air b’n’b’s, and a Christmas tree farm.

The Briar Patch is an agro-tourism farm, event venue, and bicycle park right here in Westminster! William Arnold, pictured below with his dog Lebowski, is the fourth generation of his family to farm this 700-acre plot. His great-grandfather started the farm before World War II, and then his grandfather built and grew the farm to the size it is today. William and his sister Natalie Arnold assumed daily operations of the family farm in 2016 when their father suffered a severe fall.

William currently handles the farm’s cattle operation while Natalie handles the chicken houses. The farm has also just planted an orchard of fruit trees and has one friendly pig running around. William’s goal for the Briar Patch is to implement programs, classes, and events to teach people more about where their food comes from.
